From seasoned leaders to our Voice of Democracy winners, the Mid-Winter Conference reinforced a simple truth: growth never stops, and neither does our responsibility to prepare the next generation to lead.

As the year comes to a close, the holiday season offers a moment to pause and reflect on the meaning of service, remembrance, and fellowship. For many veterans, this time of year carries both gratitude and quiet challenge. It is also a reminder that the mission of the VFW does not end with the calendar, but continues through the bonds we share and the commitment we carry into the year ahead.

Everyday heroes keep the VFW mission alive. They’re the members who plan events, mentor youth, visit hospitals, and check on fellow veterans, quietly serving without recognition. Their simple acts of care and commitment strengthen our community, remind us of our shared purpose, and ensure the VFW remains a place of connection, gratitude, and belonging for every generation of veterans.

At the September 2025 VFW National Council of Administration meeting in Kansas City, National Council Member Paul Herrera joined fellow leaders in shaping the future of the organization. From approving major investments in veteran memorials to reinforcing accountability and compliance, the Council focused on decisions that protect the VFW’s mission and strengthen its foundation.
